Angela's Lashes 5yo m Muhtarram - Iborga
She won her bumper on good ground at Tramore and has had two runs over hurdles. A
very well-bred mare - her dam is a sister to Hors La Loi and Cyborgo - she will
continue novice hurdling. She is not very big, so we might race her in France at
some stage as lighter weights will suit her.
Apt Manor 4yo f Craigsteel - Bishops Lass
She is a strong filly by Craigsteel. She ran a cracker on her debut at Galway and
she should have no problem winning a bumper before going over hurdles. She
handles good ground and could go novice hurdling in the spring.
Apt Approach 6yo g Bob Back - Imminent Approach
He's come back a stronger horse from summer grass. He ran twice over hurdles,
winning a maiden last season and running second in a novice. We are looking
forward to him going novice chasing.
Arbor Supreme 7yo g Supreme Leader - Peter's Well
The Grand National is his main objective and his campaign will be geared
towards Aintree. He needs plenty of distance and while he appreciates very soft
ground, he seems to jump better on better ground. We'll probably mix it with him
and run him over hurdles and fences.
Avoca King 7yo g Luso - A Queen By Phar
He is one for the staying novice novice hurdle division. He won a bumper and has
had a run over hurdles.
Ballyhaunis 4yo g Daylami - Ballet
He showed ability on the flat and will be going novice hurdling over 2m around
Christmas. Goes on any ground.
Ballytrim 8yo g Luso - Helynsar
Hopefully he will be good enough to run in the Grand National but if that
doesn't work out he could be an Irish National horse. He is an out-and-out
stayer and a good jumper.
Barker 8yo g Mister Matt - Drunrawn Lass
But for losing out by a short head in the Powers Gold Cup he would have been
four from four for us over fences last season. We're hoping he will be a
Champion Chase horse. He has won on heavy and on good, but is possibly better
suited by good.
Beroni 7yo g Accordian - Niamhs Dream
He won a chase and was also placed a couple of times over fences last season
before he came to us. He won a handicap hurdle at Galway on his first run for us
and is a horse we think quite a bit of.
Black Harry 9yo g Flemingsfirth - Raise An Ace
He hasn't run since falling in the novice hurdle at the 2007 Cheltenham
Festival. He is an out-and-out stayer and he will be going over fences as soon
as he is ready.
Bothar Na 10yo ch g Mister Lord - Country
Course
He hasn't been setting the world alight this season. He ran well on his seasonal
debut at Punchestown but was then disappointing at Uttoxeter. He was running well in the
Galway Plate two years ago until encountering bumping at the second last and
eventually finishing 9th. We might give him a run in a cross-country race.
Boxer Georg 7yo g Taipan - Country Course
He's a half-brother to Bothar Na and won his only point-to-point before being
pulled up in a hunter chase at Wexford. He should make into a nice staying
chaser but we might continue with point-to-points and hunter chases this season.
Cadspeed 6yo g Vertical Speed - Cadmina
Both bumper wins came on heavy ground and conditions weren't testing enough for
him at Cheltenham, so we didn't see the best of him there. He handles the mud
very well and should pay his way in 2m-2m4f novice hurdles. Comes from a good
French family and is a chaser in the making.
C'est Ca 5yo g Groom Dancer - Known Class
He's had a colic operation and has come back a stronger horse. He's won a couple
of hurdle races and the plan is to go novice chasing with him.
Clear Gold 11yo g Clearly Bust - Madness In Motion
He won a couple of handicap chases for us last season. Hopefully he can win
another handicap or two and as he is a maiden over hurdles we might try him at
that game.
Coffee Tea Or Me 4yo bg Vettori - Cockatrice
He has disappointed this season but really needs proper summer ground. He is a
versatile type who could win on the flat or over fences if he gets the right
ground.
Compelled 5yo bf Anshan – Conjure
Up
She is a big strong mare but has been disappointing. She has had
a few runs over fences and hopefully she will win a mares chase.
Cooldine 7yo b g Beneficial - Shean Alainn
A very impressive winner of the RSA Chase at the Festival last season and that
race obviously took more out of him than we thought as he ran nowhere near that
form at Punchestown. They went a fierce gallop at Cheltenham and he was up there
all the way, so while it may have looked easy I've no doubt it took a lot of
effort. He stays particularly well and jumps terrific, so the Gold Cup is very
much on the agenda alsong with races like the Lexus and the Irish Hennessy. He
could start off in the John Durkan, although there are other options. Stamina is
his forte and he's essentially a soft-ground horse, although he handles quicker
conditions.
Cousin Vinny 6yo g Bob Back - Trixskin
Had high-class form over hurdles behind Hurricane Fly and Mikael D'Haguenet last
season and was unlucky not to win the Deloitte, having overjumped at the last.
He's an exciting prospect for novice chases because he's got plenty of speed and
his pedigree says he should have no trouble staying. He'll be ready to run in
November and will probably start off over 2m as we can always move him up in
distance later if we feel it's necessary.
Dani California 5yo bf Beat All - Auntie Bob
She won the Irish Cesarewitch recently and is improving all the time. She will
probably run in the Leopardstown November Handicap. She has a preference for
good ground.
Definitive Edge 7yo ch g Definite Article –
Itkan
In great form this summer, winning a bumper and two novice hurdles, and is an
interesting prospect as I'd expect him to keep progressing. He's been slow to
mature but as his jumping improves, he'll be able to drop back in trip to 2m4f
or even shorter. Considering he's been held up by training problems, he's
already shown enough potential to suggest he's got a bright future.
Deutschland 6yo bg Red Ransom - Rhine Valley
He has had a fantastic season novice chasing. He has held his form well over the
winter and has carried it through to the flat. He is on a break now and will be
back for a spring campaign. He is a natural jumper of fences but we think there
is a big handicap hurdle still to be won with him.
Enterprise Park 5yo b g Goldmark - Park Wave
The bumper he won on his debut is working out quite well, so I'm looking forward
to him going over hurdles and stepping up in trip. He's from a very good family
and is a staying chaser in the making.
Equus Maximus 9 b g Flemensfirth - Sambara
Fine, big staying chaser who still has scope for improvement despite his age as
he's only had six runs over fences. Soft ground is a definite help to him and
we'll be looking at the big 3m-plus handicap chases such as the Thyestes.
There's also a race for him at Navan after Christmas and he could make up into
an Irish National horse as the longer distance would bring his stamina into
play.
Fionnegas 5 b g Accordion - Tremplin
Unbeaten in two bumpers and a novice hurdle, which is very encouraging given that
he's a long-term staying chase prospect. He will stick to hurdles this season
and has plenty of scope for improvement.
Fiveforthree 7 gr g Arzanni - What A Queen
Picked up another little injury after winning the World Series Hurdle at
Punchestown, so once again he'll have a late-season campaign as he's only just
started pre-training. He definitely won't be running before Christmas and he'll
probably stay hurdling as we'd be playing catch-up if we sent him over fences.
He's good enough to have an entry in the Champion, but I would say the World
Hurdle is a more likely target and then he'll go back to Punchestown to defend
his crown. It's frustrating not to get a proper clear run with him but he's a
high-class horse who still gets the job done each year.
Glencove Marina 7 b g Spectrum - Specifiedrisk
A very exciting horse two seasons ago when he was heading for the Arkle or RSA
Chase before picking up a tendon injury. We've given him plenty of time to
recover so fingers crossed he can pick up where he left off. We'll probably look
for a conditions race to ease him back in rather than pitch him straight into
Grade 1 level. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he turned out to be a Gold Cup
horse.
Golden Silver 7 b g Mansonnien - Gold Or Silver
Just got the better of Forpadydeplaster in the Irish Arkle last year where the
testing conditions played to his strengths. He's quite ground-dependent and it
was too lively for him in the Arkle at Cheltenham. There's a good series of
races for horses like him over here so he'll be campaigned mainly in Ireland,
although he could go for the Ryanair if it looked like being a soft-ground
Festival.
Hayabusa 5yo m Sir Harry Lewis - Vedra
She is a nice strong mare. We are hoping she will win a bumper but staying
hurdles could be more her cup of tea.
Huckle Buck Shoe 6yo bg King’s Theatre – Bold
Nora
He is a big, chasing type and won his bumper nicely at Kilbeggan before winning
over hurdles. He is best on ngood ground over 2 miles.
Hurricane Fly 5 b g Montjeu - Scandisk
A very exciting novice last season and after missing Cheltenham through injury, I
was delighted to see him win at Punchestown in such good style. He's summered
well after being gelded and has come back stronger, so he'll have a Champion
Hurdle campaign starting in November. I haven't mapped out any specific races as
we'll feel our way with him, but he's in great order and has everything you look
for in a Champion Hurdle horse. He's got loads of speed, jumps well and goes on
any ground.
Irish Invader 8 b g Bob Back - Idealist
Has the speed to win over two miles but has a lovely, economic way of jumping and
stays well enough to merit another crack at the Grand National. I thought he ran
well to finish 11th last season - it was a decent first effort - and he's got
size and scope to carry weight round there. On decent ground, I could see him
getting in the money. He'll have a few runs beforehand but won't be seen for a
while as he came back into training late.
Jasmin D’Ouadairies 12yo bg Apeldoorn –
Vella
He is on a break at the moment and will mix it between chasing and hurdles when
he returns.
Jayo 6yo g Grape Tree Road - Joie De Nuit
He was a smart 2m novice chaser last season. He likes soft ground and could turn
into more of a staying chaser this season.
J'y Vole 6 ch m Mansonnien - J'y Reste
I'm hoping we can get her back to the level of her Moriarty Chase win of two
seasons ago when she beat Big Zeb in some style. That was an eye-opening
performance to say the least but she wasn't in the same form last season for one
reason or another. She's come back looking strong and well, so the plan is to go
for chases over 2m4f-2m6f. She'll probably have two entries at Cheltenham - the
David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle and the Ryanair.
Kempes 6 b g Intikhab - Unicamp
He has an engine, as he showed when winning a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse and finishing
second to Hurricane Fly at Punchestown, but has no respect for hurdles. A fine,
big horse who will carry weight over a fence, I'd expect him to show more
respect when he goes novice chasing this season. If we can sort that side of his
game out, he's an exciting prospect because there's no doubt he has the ability
to go right to the top. Definitely an Arkle-type horse.
Little Palm
He is a fine big jumping type but has been difficult to train. We hope he will be
good enough to win over hurdles and fences before the year is out.
Mikael D'Haguenet 5 b g Lavirico - Fleur D'Haguenet
Showed plenty of speed throughout last season and looks a top-class chasing
prospect following his Festival wins over hurdles at Cheltenham and Punchestown.
He threw a splint a little while back and also sustained a cut, which meant him
missing a month's work, but it's not the end of the world as he ran over fences
in France so has the experience. I'll try to run him early in December in
preparation for Christmas and we'll start off thinking he's an Arkle horse,
although he'll also have the RSA Chase as an option. He seems to handle decent
ground, but prefers some cut.
Mountain Snow
He has been kept for a summer flat campaign and we think there is a nice flat in
him.
Mourad 4 ch g Sinndar - Mouramara
Very useful ex-Flat horse who finished in the money in Grade 1 company at
Cheltenham, Punchestown and Auteuil last season. I liked the way he was
finishing in the Triumph and the plan is for him to go back there for the
Stayers' Hurdle. He's matured since being gelded and has lots of potential.
Not For Converting 5yo Bob Back - Par Street
He disappointed us at the Galway Festival but may not have handled the track. He
is on break now and will probably be kept for a spring campaign in novice
hurdles. He needs good ground.
Quel Esprit 5 gr g Saint Des Saints - Jeune D'Esprit
Top-class bumper form and although he suffered his only defeat at Cheltenham,
that was still a grand effort as the form is working out very well. I'm really
excited about him going over fences next season, but in the meantime I expect
him to be a force in 2m4f-2m6f novice hurdles. Looks fantastic and if forced to
pick one, he'd be my horse to follow.
Quevega 5 b m Robin Des Champs - Vega IV
Got a knock after her last run in France so hasn't been back in traning long.
It's quite possible she won't run before the Festival, but I wouldn't be overly
worried about that. The way she won there last season means it would be very
difficult to resist going for the mares' race again, although she'll also get an
entry in the Champion Hurdle. Her pedigree suggests she'll get better with age,
which is exciting to think about.
Red Hot Poker 7yo bg Emarati – Red
Hot Hebe
He is a nice chasing type, who I’d hope
would pay his way in bumpers before he goes hurdling/chasing.
Sesanta 5yo bf King’s Theatre –
Cincuenta
She is small but is very honest. The rise in the weights in the Pierse didn’t
help her and we’ll wait now and look for handicaps where she’ll have a low
weight. She will mix it on the flat and over hurdles. She has paid her way well.
Tarkari 4yo g Fantastic Light - Taraza
He is a light framed ex John Oxx horse and is improving and getting stronger all
the time. He has won a couple of hurdles and should be capable of winning again
over 2m when he comes back in the spring following a winter break.
The Midnight Club 8 ch g Flemensfirth - Larry's Peach
Third to Weapon's Amnesty in the Albert Bartlett, he's one to look forward to
over fences as he's won a point-to-point and chasing is what he's bred for.
Assuming all goes well, he'll have entries in the RSA Chase and the four-miler
at Cheltenham. Prefers cut in the ground, though he copes with quicker
conditions over a trip.
Uimhiraceathair 7 b g Old Vic - Petrea's Birthday
His name is Gaelic for Number Four. The owner put five horses' names into a hat
and picked out this one. Cousin Vinny was number five! Had the speed to win two
bumpers, but scored over 3m over hurdles in the spring and looks more of a
stayer. A good old-fashioned chasing type, he'll go over fences now and wants a
decent ease in the ground.
Vertige Dore 4yo g Kingsalsa - Princess Elena
He's a very good mover who ran second on his debut at Listowel. We'll see how he
progresses before deciding if he will remain in bumpers this season or go over
hurdles.
Zaidpour 3yo c Red Ransom - Zainta
Half-brother to Zaynar so it will be the Triumph Hurdle route with him. Had one
win from three starts for Alain de Royer-Dupre on the Flat in France and is a
lovely prospect. Has schooled well and makes a nice shape over a hurdle,
although I'm in no rush with him and he's unlikely to run before Christmas.
